Just got word of what seems to be a good show up north, in Porto. “Memória & Destruição” (Memory & Destruction) is the name of a collective show to present different artistic areas, by intervening in a local historic house from the XVIII century, making the contrast between historical and contemporary. To announce the new book by Alexandre Farto aka Vhils, Montana Shop & Gallery Lisboa is holding a book signing and a special custom print specially made for the event. Limited to 25 to be sold on the day ONLY. After the event, prints will NOT be available. Part of the sales proceeds to Nariz Vermelho institution. More info inside.

About the book

Vhils is undoubtedly one of the most skilled and talented young artists on the urban art scene today. He creates technically masterful, contemporary portraits by not only adding paint or other materials onto surfaces, but also carving, drilling, scratching, ripping, or blasting his images out of walls. With nothing less than archeological meticulousness, Vhils penetrates through countless layers of posters, dirt, and plaster to set free the unsettlingly poetic images hidden in urban spaces.

The monograph Vhils is the most extensive collection of his personal and commissioned work to date, much of which is published here for the first time. The introduction is written by Marc and Sara Schiller of Wooster Collective.

Montana Shop 2nd anniversary coming

Montana Shop & Gallery Lisboa is about to celebrate their 2nd anniversary this Thursday, and by now (if you follow my facebook/twitter page) you already now that artist Aryz is in town and doing a massive wall in Lisboa. This is possible due to the efforts made by the Montana team and the GAU project (Urban Art Gallery) from the city council. For the anniversary of Montana, Aryz is also putting together a small show for the gallery. Flyer and info inside.
